I just got back from Williamsburg. My family and I had a nice long weekend trip back to ye olde capital city. I was able to find lots of great books and some nice prints. I also was able to get some nice pictures. I am hoping that one set from the Governors Palace may end up in my final project. We shall see.
I really enjoyed this assignment. I know that the final product is going to look so lame compared to my talented classmates but this was fun and I am generally happy with what I have learned through experimentation. I have lots of reading to do because I didn't get any done while swimming in ye olde swimming pool.
Here are my three newly created rules for web design. (1) You'll never be completely happy with the result. (2) What people will see is that you worked really hard to make the result as good as possible. (3) At some point you just have to stop and give the result over to the world (and not feel guilty about the occasional shortcoming that you can see but probably no one else will -- that part is definitely the hardest). I can tell by looking at your assignment that you've put a ton of work into this assignment, and you should be very pleased with the results. The bird I like in particular but all the aspects of your site are really impressive in their own ways. Perfect? No -- can't imagine what that would look like, so it's not like there's one "perfect" out there that you've hit at and missed. That brings me to my newest newly created rule. To be fair, it's actually Colonel Potter's rule from MASH (a show to which I often turn when I need good advice): Potter says to Hawkeye "The only person you have to be better than is who you are right now." Make that #4. Each time we do this, I think, the rudimentary stuff gets easier and we get a little more adept at the hard stuff. That's got to be the point, I think, or no one would be allowed to do this at all except if they were trained in web design. I honestly think it's more important that you get your "version" of history out there than that it be perfect -- except in terms of quotes and citations. Can't compromise there -- the rest is (mostly) taste and preference. Keep up the good work!

George -
This looks great! I was in Williamsburg this weekend as well, and I went into a used/rare bookstore. I was flipping through a book and found the image of your chief! I immediately thought of your image assignment. I also love the bird. Very elegant.

Thanks Tracy and Lynn. I appreciate the encouragement and feedback. That is funny that you were in Williamsburg also Lynn. It was really nice to be away.
