I ran into a snafu this weekend when I tried to add some elements to my Type project. I couldn't log in to the GMU mason cluster. (aka osf1 account...that is the old term for our personal web space at mason.) I didn't change my password or anything but now it refuses to let me in. I tried multiple ftp software tools including terminal/cyberduck/dreamweaver. No dice. I decided to go with ipage as a web host because I wanted to get back online and make progress. (I was able to call and talk to someone who was helpful on a Saturday afternoon...I will let you know if they are good over the long haul). Only problem was I needed to get oriented to the way they managed files etc. Meanwhile I felt like I was in the Steve MIller song time keeps on slipping...into the future. New site is at http://www.clioweb2.com/ .
Nevertheless...no animals were hurt in this process although I am sure that my profanity laced tirades makes my wife wonder why grad school has not improved or expanded my vocabulary beyond four letter words.
Hi! Here are my comments on your type assignment:

I am still using the mason.gmu.edu server. Hopefully, I will not suffer through your agony of this weekend. I have a very short fuse relating to technology problems.
I can't imagine GMU's tech support will improve in the short-run with all the budget cuts. It is easy to cut money; it really hard to understand all of the consequences.
As you know, I am still amused that the GMU wireless network does not support Windows 7. That was a big part of my frustration in the last class. I would turn my back on my computer, and my wireless connection had disappeared. I won't bring my personal computer to class again to enjoy that frustration.

So far I also have ipage as a hosting partner, and they proved really helpful with Omeka installation. Good luck!

George,
I apologize for the lateness of my comments, but I had a few thoughts on your typography assignment:
-The main body column seems a bit narrow. 480px is small even by netbook standards, I would bring this up to at least 600, maybe even 800px. I think the site would be easier to read this way.
-The header looks really neat, but the script font may be too small especially with the numerous flourishes. If the entire body is wider, then maybe retool the logo?
-The gap between your sidebar and the body seems to be too big this time. Maybe bring that down to 10px, so the difference between the sides isn't so jarring.
-Give some of your photos some padding, so that the text doesn't bump up against it. You should be able to do that in the bottom bar in Dreamweaver.
-I really liked the color scheme: it resembles an expensive book. Exactly what I would think of reading an old natural history work. Excellent!
